Eligibility for Reduced Fees |

State statute sets the cost of a criminal records search at $25.00. Also, pursuant to statute, a reduced fee of $8.00 is authorized for charitable organizations.
Pursuant to statute, criminal records checks for prospective teachers and substitute teachers are provided to local school districts without charge and criminal records checks for bus drivers and bus driver aides are provided for a reduced fee of $8.00.
After clicking "Eligible", you will be required to enter your charitable organization verification account information or local school district verification account number to proceed. If you are not a charitable organization or a local school district checking prospective teachers, you should click "Not Eligible".
If you click "Not Eligible" and perform a criminal records check, you will be charged $25.00.
To obtain a reduced fee verification account, a completed Charitable Account Application Form along with IRS documentation of Section 501 (c)(3) status must be submitted. You may type directly into the application form on this web site and print a copy for mailing to SLED along with the IRS documentation.

SECTION 33-56-170. Definitions of "charitable organization" and "employee" for purposes of Section 33-56-80.
- (1) "Charitable organization" means any organization,
institution, association, society, or corporation which is exempt from taxation pursuant
of Section 501 (c)(3) or 501 (d) of Title 26 of the United States Code, as amended.
- (2) "Employee" means an agent, servant, employee, or officer of a charitable organization.
